Summary: The 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic is the United Nations treaty that harmonises road-traffic rules among its contracting parties. It defines the driver, requires every moving vehicle to have a driver who is at all times able to control it, and lays down uniform rules of the road and requirements for vehicles and drivers. Amendments in force since 2016 (Article 8(5 bis)) and 2022 (Article 34 bis) accommodate vehicle systems that influence driving and automated driving systems.
Význam: The Convention is the international baseline for the legal concept of the driver against which national automated-vehicle frameworks and the Article 34 bis accommodation of automated driving systems are measured.
