Concepts

The terms the modules code against, each with its definition, its locus in the primary sources and the module columns it governs. A draft badge means the definition has been drafted from the sources and awaits the author's review.

ROAT-CON-FALLBACK

DDT fallback and minimal risk condition

The response to a performance-relevant system failure or to an exit from the operational design domain: a user performs the DDT, or the user or the automated driving system brings the vehicle to a minimal risk condition, a stable stopped state that reduces crash risk when the trip cannot or should not continue.

Used in

Human roles · Second Gate

ROAT-CON-SECOND-GATE

Deployment gate (the second gate)

Whatever a legal order requires, beyond the technical admissibility of the vehicle and its automated driving system, before driverless operation on a given road, for a given service and under a given actor is lawful: an operating-area approval, a service commissioning decision, a passenger-service permit, a conditional admission with a road-access pilot, or only a test permit.

Second Gate

ROAT-CON-DDT

Dynamic driving task (DDT)

All real-time operational and tactical functions required to operate a vehicle in on-road traffic: lateral and longitudinal motion control, object and event detection and response, and manoeuvre planning.

Human roles · Second Gate

ROAT-CON-ODD

Operational design domain (ODD)

The operating conditions, including environmental, geographical, time-of-day, traffic and road characteristics, under which a driving automation system or feature is designed to function.

Used in

Second Gate

ROAT-CON-REMOTE-ASSISTANCE

Remote assistance

Event-driven provision, by a remotely located human, of information or advice to an ADS-equipped vehicle in driverless operation so that the trip can continue when the automated driving system meets a situation it cannot manage.

Used in

Human roles · Second Gate

ROAT-CON-REMOTE-DRIVING

Remote driving

Real-time performance of part or all of the DDT or the DDT fallback, including braking, steering and acceleration, by a remote driver who completes the object and event detection and response and may overrule the automated driving system.

Used in

Human roles · Second Gate

ROAT-CON-REMOTE-INTERVENTION

Remote intervention

Discrete commands issued from outside the vehicle that change its behaviour, such as requesting a minimal risk manoeuvre, confirming or releasing a manoeuvre, rerouting, resuming the trip or controlling doors, while the automated driving system continues to perform the DDT.

Used in

Human roles · Second Gate

ROAT-CON-TECH-SUPERVISION

Technical supervision (remote supervisor)

A natural person outside the vehicle who monitors autonomous operation and may deactivate the system, release or request manoeuvres and respond to incidents, without continuously performing the DDT.
